Is a kadiyal saree the same as a Paithani?
No. Kadiyal describes the border-joining technique; Paithani describes a weaving tradition from Maharashtra. A kadiyal Paithani uses both — Paithani motifs with a kadiyal-joined border.
How can I tell if a saree has a true kadiyal border?
Look at the join from the reverse side. On a genuine kadiyal the border join is clean and identical on both faces, with no floating or carried threads behind the colour change.

Checks are an unusual choice for a traditional weave — most Paithani-inspired sarees lean toward solid fields or scattered florals — but this saree runs a subtle all-over checks pattern through the body anyway, giving it a structured, almost tailored rhythm before the temple motifs even come into play.
