The making of Banarasi Soft Silk Saree
A Banarasi soft silk saree built on the contrast principle: a deep, quiet body scattered with small zari buttis, then a wide designer border in an opposing colour that does all the talking. The pallu carries the border motif enlarged and repeated, so the saree reads as one considered piece rather than a body with trim attached.
The silk is the soft-finish variety — it falls and pleats straight off the shelf instead of needing a season of wear to relax. Each piece comes with a contrast blouse piece woven to match the border.
What you are buying
- Banarasi soft silk saree, approximately 5.5 metres, with contrast blouse piece
- Allover zari buttis spaced evenly across the body
- Wide designer border in a contrast colour, repeated and enlarged through the pallu
- Soft finish — drapes and pleats without stiffness
- Eight colourways, each with its own border pairing
Honestly about provenance
This saree is handwoven and curated by us. It does not come from our own Kolkata embroidery workshop, and we will not dress it up as something it isn't. What we stand behind is the choosing: these eight pairings were picked because the border colour genuinely lifts the body rather than fighting it, which is the thing most contrast sarees get wrong.
Care
Dry clean only. Store folded in cotton, and refold along a different line every few months so the zari does not crease into one permanent fold.
