Kadiyal Border Soft Silk Saree

A Kadiyal border saree in soft silk, chosen for the one thing that separates a genuine Kadiyal from a printed imitation: the border and the body are woven in two different colours, interlocked thread by thread on the loom rather than joined at a seam. Turn the saree over and the join is as clean on the reverse as on the face.

The pallu carries gold zari peacocks, parrots and florals set between geometric bands. Across the body, small zari buttas are spaced evenly so the drape reads rich without becoming loud. Each piece comes with a contrast blouse piece matched to the border.

Honestly about provenance

This saree is handwoven and curated by us — it does not come from our own Kolkata embroidery workshop, and we will not pretend otherwise. What we do vouch for is the selection: we chose these nine colourways from a much larger lot, and left behind the ones where the zari sat flat or the border interlock was untidy.

Care

Dry clean only. Store folded in cotton, and refold along a different line every few months so the zari does not crease into one permanent fold.
