The making of Kalyani Cotton Gadwal Saree
A Kalyani cotton Gadwal: a cotton body joined to a silk contrast border, which is the whole idea behind a Gadwal saree. The two fabrics are interlocked where they meet rather than stitched, so the join holds without a seam ridge and the saree hangs as one piece.
That construction is why it wears the way it does. The cotton body breathes and sits light against you through a long day, while the silk border carries enough weight to pull the drape straight and hold a pleat. A saree that is all cotton goes limp; one that is all silk gets hot. This is the compromise, and it is an old one.
Small zari butis are spaced across the body, and the border and pallu carry woven rudraksha, peacock and paisley bands in zari. The blouse piece is in the contrast border colour, not the body colour.

Who this suits
This is a day saree rather than a wedding saree. It is the one for office, temple, a daytime function or a long summer event — somewhere you need to look put together for eight hours without the fabric fighting you. For an evening wedding you would want one of our silks instead.
Honestly about provenance
Handwoven and curated by us — it does not come from our own Kolkata embroidery workshop. We describe the fabric as our weaver describes it to us, cotton silk, and we have not had the fibre ratio independently tested, so we do not quote one.
Care
Dry clean for the first wash so the border colour sets. After that, hand wash separately in cold water — the deep border colours can bleed onto the lighter bodies, and the white and beige shades are the ones to be careful with. Dry in shade, iron on the reverse.
